15 Star Flag

The 15 star flag (1795 – 1818), known as the Star-Spangled Banner, is the only US flag with 15 stripes, representing Vermont and Kentucky’s admission.  This historic flag inspired Francis Scott Key’s national anthem during the war of 1812.  It was replaced in 1818, returning to 13 stripes with a star added for every new state.  It flew from may 1, 1795 to July 4, 1818.
