The 48 star US flag represents the United States from 1912 to 1959, serving as a powerful symbol of American unity during World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, and the Korean War. It represented the contiguous US with 48 states, New Mexico and Arizona being the last added, before Alaska and Hawaii joined. It became official on July 4, 1912, under President Taft, lasting for 47 years, longer than any other version until the 50 star flag.
